Highland Township Public Library connects you with people, resources, and knowledge to enrich, inspire, and empower your life’s journey.

 

Value Statement

Libraries support a democratic society and ensure the right to information, therefore the Highland Township Public Library commits to these values:

Strategic Plan Goals Summary, 2009-2014

WE WILL BE WELCOMING AND USER-FRIENDLY

· Evaluate the hours the library is open

· Explore the use of outdoor space

· Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep/conservation of the building

· Always be improving our customer service

· Look for ways to enhance the ambiance and comfort of our building

 

WE WILL IMPROVE TECHNOLOGY ACCESS AND USE

· Develop a mobile computer lab for classes

· Investigate expanded website options

· Investigate RFID for inventory and patron self-checkout

· Consider purchasing additional software and hardware for public use

· Consider expanding wireless access to the lower level

· Investigate technologies to inform patrons of library programming, services or public events, and announcements

·  Upgrade public computers

· Consider options for review of damaged returned AV materials

 

WE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO LIFELONG LEARNING AND ENRICHMENT THROUGH PROGRAMMING

· Provide gathering spaces

· Offer a wide variety of programs

· Collaborate with other libraries or institutions on programming

WE WILL INCREASE THE LIBRARY’S PRESENCE AND COLLABORATION IN THE COMMUNITY

· Redesign the library’s logo

· Continue developing relationships with area agencies, business, community organizations, and school district

· Encourage the exchange of ideas and resources between our library board of directors and the library boards of other local libraries.

· Increase community awareness of library services

· Develop effective services that meet the needs of specific audiences

 

WE WILL RECOGNIZE LIBRARY STAFF AS A KEY COMPONENT OF QUALITY LIBRARY SERVICE

· Train all staff on new technology, software, and services

· Support staff participation in professional workshops and conferences

· Schedule time for periodic department meetings and all-staff meetings

· Assess our staffing patterns and needs to achieve goals within our financial restraints

· Maximize efficiency in the use of space for offices and storage areas

· Train all staff in appropriate safety and emergency response
